The view

A package with a model opens its Design tab on the engine's view: a Cocos page inside the IDE that reads the .glb as it is. The IDE serves the page and the model itself; nothing else needs to run. The view draws at 60 frames a second, follows every change of the document, and loads the page again when the model is replaced.

It is lit by the world's environment in Play and in the preview; on the Design tab, by the editor's own light.

Selecting

  • A click selects what is under it: a placed object (a click on what it places selects the placement too), or else the model's part that was clicked; empty space selects the package itself.
  • The selection is shared across the project: the Node Tree selects its row, the Inspector shows it.
  • Dragging with the left button does not select.

The camera

The camera turns, pans and zooms. A double click in the Node Tree (or Enter) flies it to a part or a placement, close enough for it to fill the view; a placement inside a closed building opens the building. On a scene, the camera reaches back to 1 km.

Buildings are seen from outside: the view hides the interior layer, whose walls share the shell's faces. A node made only of interior parts (an interior group) is shown from inside.

The Design tab and Environment Preview run no scripts; scripts run only in Play. What the view draws (boxes, the grid) is not collision or navigation.
