Sakin Editor
Sakin Editor is where Caria is made: its world and calendar, the town's layout, its buildings, residents and objects, and their behaviour in Kalem. It is a plugin for IntelliJ IDEA, and it works with the IDE's own pieces: New Project, the Project tree, editor tabs, tool windows, Run and Debug, undo, notifications. Only the 3D view is its own, an engine page inside the IDE.
What you make
| Document | What it is |
|---|---|
World (.world) | a world's definition: when it starts, its own fields and scripts, its environment and its scene |
Environment (.environment) | how the world looks through the seasons, the day and the weather |
Scene (.scene) | the town's layout: which building, resident and object stands where |
| Building, Character, Object | a model with its parts, fields, scripts and the objects it places |
Animation (.anim) | a clip characters play: walking, sitting, waving |
Event (.event) | an event of the town's catalog: the power going off, a visitor coming in |
Kalem script (.kalem) | behaviour, attached to any of them as a component (Scripts) |
Every document is JSON (a script is text), and each opens on a Design tab: a form, and for anything with a model, the 3D view. The IDE's text tab stays beside it, and an edit on either shows on the other.
How it runs
Play runs a world as a session of Caria's server: its clock, its scripts, its fields and events, seen in the IDE's Run tool window (Play). Debug stops it at a line of a script (Debug); Profile shows what every script spent (Profile).
Where to start
- Getting started: a project, its first documents, and Play.
- How Caria's world works: what the server owns, what a document holds, how events and fields meet.
- Documents, the Design tab, Play.
- Kalem: the language behaviour is written in.
